Keto is more than just a great weight loss tool.
Ketones have profound effects on the brain and in the context of TBI, and it can be life-altering. TBI’s, brain tumors, and toxic consumption in my past is why I live a ketogenic lifestyle to help heal and protect my brain.
This month, Ketogenic.com is bringing awareness to Traumatic Brain Injury and the millions of Americans whose lives have been affected.
Traumatic Brain Injury is a disturbance of brain function resulting from an impact to the head. Although this type of injury is high amongst professional athletes and children, other common causes include accidental falls, blunt-force-trauma, and car accidents. This is a very serious disease process that affects a large population of children, athletes, service men and women, and the elderly.
TBI is the cause of 2.5 million hospital visits a year— 350,000 of which are from children, affects 1.5 million Americans annually, accounts for 30% of all injury-related deaths, and kills 153 people every day. Symptoms range from mild to severe and include headaches, nausea, trouble sleeping, trouble focusing, memory loss, and impaired vision. Due to the nature of the injury, TBI may manifest psychological symptoms such as irritability, anger, aggression, mood swings, and impulsive behavior.
