Exercise=Health

Exercise isn’t all about strength, bulk, or what gym or equipment you use.πŸ’―

πŸŒ€It’s about overall health and well-being, as well as a great tool to ramp up the fat & keto-adaptation process while following a ketogenic diet and lifestyle. It’s also great for the mind as it’s proven to relieve stress and facilitate new mitochondrial growth (mitochondrialbiogenisis) that supports energy production and reduced risk of disease. πŸ€“

😎You don’t need to do Olympic lifts to become a fat-burning machine or to get healthy, lean, and fit. I enjoy this style of training and it compliments my BMX riding. Don’t get intimidated by this video thinking you need to workout how I work out to get results.πŸ’ͺ🏽

Basic functional body movements with some sort of regular resistance (weights or just body weight) training is just fine to burn up stored carbohydrates (glucogen) as well as lingering glucose/insulin levels to facilitate ketones production (in the liver) and fat-burning mode on top of a proper formulated nutrional intake.πŸ”₯

If you want to burn fat, you gotta lower insulin levels, burn up lingering glucose (blood sugar), & eat more fat to initiate the adaptation process to become fat & keto-adapted.

Following a ketogenic lifestyle is the best way to burn fat efficiently, enjoyably, & it also supports your brain. Then comes basic, full-body, functional movements.πŸ’šβœŒοΈ

Fueled by Gratitude & Love

“Now every day I wake up and breathe

I don’t have it all but that’s alright with me.” Mac Miller πŸ™πŸΌ

To me, this is a phrase backed by gratitude and love.

Gratitude to be alive and be filled with abundance right in front of me. Love for what I believe in, my purpose to serve and support others, and love for the process and journey of it all.

When we live in lack, spite, stress, doubt, worry, or fear, it only lasts so long as fuel to keep us going.

I was full of spite and anger towards an abusive drunken step father and those who doubted my dreams to become a pro BMX athlete like I am today.

Reflecting on my beginnings, I can see all that anger and spite combined with a negative lifestyle and diet probably caused the brain tumors to show up.

Now that I’ve audited my life and shifted my priorities to love, gratitude, and serving others, along with @elekta_ Gamma Knife & a ketogenic diet, the tumors have shown no progression, I’m progressing all areas of my life, I’ve overcome obstacles I never fathomed, and I’m happier and healthier than ever.

My 3 core beliefs as who I am today:

πŸŒ€ Life starts with perspective & progresses with gratitude.

πŸŒ€ Health is internal, not numbers on a piece of paper or scale.

πŸŒ€ Life is a manifestation of our choices, there’s no excuses.

Fear is just a thought, thoughts can be changed. πŸ’šβœŒοΈ

Correlation or Causation?

Correlation does NOT mean causation.

There’s a lot of hype around a ketogenic diet (high fat, moderate protein, very low carb) and eating a lot of animal foods.

1) the ketogenic diet is not a high-protein diet.

2) the nonsense coming from these people saying eating animal foods, especially whole eggs, is toxic to the human body comes from correlation studies, if backed by anything.

This simply means the studies looked at a random group of people and correlated who ate animal foods to who died at whatever age or got sick.

This doesn’t exclude whether or not the person was an alcoholic, ate processed foods every day, was addicted to sugar, smoked, was sedentary, what source and quality the animal foods were, how much protein they ate a day, and so on.

On the contrary, there’s an abundance of studies using control studies showing eating a proper ketogenic diet or quality animal foods in optimal amounts does not cause harm to the body and in fact it can help people with a plethora of issues.

I personally follow a ketogenic diet with a focus on plenty of organic, non-starchy veggies followed by plenty of healthy fat, quality sources of moderate amounts of protein, and making sure to get enough sodium (salt) in my diet.

I have been learning more and more to question studies leading people to saying irrational things like keto or animal foods make you die sooner. P.S., you can follow a vegan ketogenic diet, it’s just very difficult and costly.

Stay open minded, love yourself, do your research, and reach out for support. πŸ’šβœŒοΈ

Don’t Chase Keto Numbers

Don’t go chasing numbers while on KETO.

Why?

Although it’s a great tool in the beginning, it doesn’t always contain all the needed context required to assess progress with the goal of solely being in KETOSIS.

I track numbers (Ketones, Glucose & Macros) from time to time now that I’ve been on this path for some time. I use @ketomojo to check my levels and @cronometer_official for my macros when I do track. It’s a great tool but not the only tool to measure success.

Ketosis can be achieved with fasting, exogenous ketones, which I use (@perfectketones code: “JoshPerry”), MCT oil (I use @wildfoodsco code: WildJosh12), or depleting glycoen stores from high-intensity workouts.

The goal is keto-adaptation & metabolic flexibility, meaning you take the time to lower the insulin & glucose levels/stores in your body over time and you adapt to producing and utilizing ketones efficiently.

Again, there are various ways to get into ketosis but it takes time to adapt the brain and body to this alternative and superior fuel source.

Once keto-adapted and metabolically flexible, you can enjoy the benefits that keto brings with it like body composition improvements, mental clarity and energy, reduction in inflammation and oxidative stress (free radicals), liberation from hunger and cravings, improved sports performance and recovery, and reduced risk of diseases or disease/symptom management.

You can also consume sensible “smart-carbs” and amounts, once keto-adapted and gained some metabolic flexibility, at specific times of the day and it’ll help your performance, fat burning, and sometimes put you deeper into ketosis.

Again, once KETO-ADAPTED.

Don’t worry if you have lower numbers because that may mean you’re body is becoming more efficient at utilizing ketones as you build more MCT transporters to shuttle the ketones into the cells. πŸ’šβœŒοΈ

Fueled By Love

I love BMX and all it’s done for me, shown me, led me to, and what’s to come.

I began on this path of self discovery (didn’t know it at the time) while chasing my dream at the age of 17 when I left home on a mission to prove doubters wrong and live the life I desired.

I’m now doing things I never fathomed being apart of my reality. Things like motivational speaking, coaching, running my own business, and becoming featured in major media outlets like GQ, People, ESPN, Fox News, Americas Got Talent, top podcasts and many others.

I started this journey fueled by spite. Today, it’s fueled by love and gratitude with a purpose of serving others.

A bmx crash one day led to an MRI that found a massive brain tumor taking over my brain. Had I not fallen and hit my head that day, I’d be dead. That’s when my whole perspective on life shifted and gratitude to be alive took over.

I then found the ketogenic diet and fitness (after blowing out my knee and needing ACL surgery) and it’s changed my and my clients lives in such profound ways.

I don’t know where I’d be if it wasn’t for that childhood dream but I know I’m grateful to have taken the risk of leaving everything behind in pursuit of making it happen.

I work my ass off and never give up because some people don’t have the option to even try, let alone wake up. Loosing my younger brother gave me a new perspective on my life once again and I’m going to continue working my ass for him and all those that don’t wake up as we often take for granted. πŸ™πŸΌ

F-Bomb Nut-Butter to-go Packs

No excuses, just choices.

I choose my health over anything. That’s why nutrition is my top priority in my day-to-day but is probably more equal to my mindset to be honest.

Currently on a plane and having this “F-Bomb” salted chocolate macadamia nut butter to-go pack as a snack. I travel a lot and I find ways to stay on track with the my health goals, specifically following a ketogenic diet and lifestyle.

I’m a a firm believer in life being a manifestation of our choices. Saying you want your life to be different requires new changes and choices.

Choices to make excuses of why not rather than pursuing the path you know will help your goals is going to keep you right there where you say you don’t want to be.

This is just one of many products out there to help keep you on track, even for “on-the-go” people like myself. Some other brands I consume, trust, support, and love are:

Power of Suggestion

The power of suggestion.

I call it “noise”.

It’s the crap we hear from other people and the media.

Today’s society seems to be full of negativity suggestions and I’ve been persuaded by it from time to time. It’s not always easy but worth it to push through for what your heart truly desires.

“You’re going to fail at that”, “that’s not a safe path, don’t go that route”, “you’re not good enough”, “you’re not smart enough”, “you’re not healthy enough”, “go to college”, “get a real job”, etc.

I’ve heard them all.

But, not all suggestions are negative.

I do my best to surround myself with positive people that have a positive influence on my life and consume positive content.

I do my best to be real but authentic but always come from a place of love, gratitude, and positivity.

I appreciate all of you that love and support me πŸ’šβœŒοΈ

Want To Become A Fat-Burner?

In order to burn fat, we must switch our genes from sugar-burning to fat-burning. In order to do that, it takes time! In short, this is also what it takes: mindset, nutrition, and fitness. Today, I want to share about an advanced technique I use and guide my clients to eventually utilizing: FAT-Fasted workouts. Specifically, full-body workouts.

Full body workouts are the best for stimulating lipolysis (fat burning) and mobilizing the fat.

Although you can get health and body composition benefits from a ketogenic diet, exercise helps increase the rate at which you see and feel the benefits.

Strength training specifically helps burn what’s called glycogen (stored sugar) in the muscles as well as the liver.

In order to get the solar energy production of ketones (by-product of burning fat), we have to deplete the glycogen stores in the liver and muscles. A ketogenic diet and exercise is the best way to do this, for a number of reasons.

8-27-18 FAT-Fasted Workout

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ4×6 back squat & pistol squats (each side)

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ4×8 bent rows (each side), pull ups, toes to bars, & side planks (10breaths each side)

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ3×12 kettle bell swings & goblet squats

Another interesting thing to note is that when someone has a lot of belly fat to remove, there is typically a lot of fat stored in the liver that needs to be burned. This is why some may not notice too much of a change in the belly fat for some time until the liver is cleaned out.

The liver is what produces ketones once glycogen stores are deleted but it also is where fat may be deposited from a poor diet. So, again, a ketogenic diet is a great tool to implement for some time to get the desired results. Then, once we are happy with our results, a lifestyle approach can be discussed in the context of the individual and their goals.

The Problem – most people don’t want to take the time to do this correctly and end up rushing the process, only to:

  1. Push through with WILLPOWER until that runs out and they lose the bandwidth to continue.
  2. Suffer through the process with another un-sustainable approach leading to failure.
  3. Not see the results they are looking for all together and give up.
  4. Harm themselves in the process of rushing.

I personally took a few of these approaches until landing on the process I now use with my clients on a journey guiding them to success. It starts with the CLARITY & WHY behind the initial GOALS, progresses with GRATITUDE & TRUSTING the PROCESS, and manifests into a TRANSFORMATIONAL new version of yourself that lasts a lifetime. πŸ’šβœŒοΈ

Shit Could Be Worse

We all have obstacles we are faced with on a daily basis.

https://cancerbro.com/bmx-athlete-fighting-4-brain-tumors/

If you think life is tough or unfair, take a look into what cards I have been dealt on top of daily stress. I am not alone in this fight and I know many of us have gone through traumatic situations in our lifetime, but imagine if you had something like living with 4 brain tumors to add to the mix every day.

All those stresses that we typically inflict on ourselves would go out the window and that’s what this disease has shown me. Shit could always be worse so why not be grateful and try my best to be happy every single day.

Even in the darkest/hardest times, there is so much to be grateful for.

That choice to see the glass-half-full is always there, we just have to choose to see it that way.

CHOOSE to set goals, have a clear vision and purpose for those goals and your life, and eat healthy food to nourish your brain (I follow a ketogenic lifestyle).

CHOOSE to believe in yourself, take action, and don’t ever give up.

WHO Do YOU Choose To Be?

You’re only destined to become who you choose to be.

I used to be a victim. Would complain about what “isn’t fair”, “why me”, “it must be nice”, and (insert caption).

I used to carry 5-10% more body fat on me at all times and knowingly hurting my brain by making the choice to eat copious amounts of sugar, processed foods, alcohol, juice, breads, pastas, cereals, candy, etc.

I used to blame my reality on anyone and anything but me and my choices. I used to be envious of others success and talk about how “unfair” my life was.

Then one day I learned (brain tumor diagnosis) to become self aware and hold myself accountable for what I did or did not have in my life.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌI made the choice to become healthy, inside and out.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌI made the choice to prioritize my brain’s health.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌI made the choice to have purpose in my life that had an impact on the world and would leave behind a legacy.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌI made the choice to be great rather than what society told me to be.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌI made the choice become a survivor, not a victim.

I challenge you all to see the world from a survivors perspective, not a victim. The world doesn’t happen to us, it happens for us. But, we must choose to see it that way.

Choose to be great. Choose to be strong. Choose to be kind. Choose to be wise. Choose to be resilient. Choose to love rather than fear.

Choose to walk your talk. Choose to dismiss the noise saying you can’t.

Carve your path. Fall down 7 times and get up 8.

Set goals. Have a clear vision and purpose. Eat healthy food to nourish your brain (I follow a ketogenic lifestyle). Believe in yourself and take action. Don’t ever give up.πŸ’šβœŒοΈ
