Time Off

A month off my bike and I am feeling good!

For those that don’t know, or didn’t see my posts about this, I took about 6 months off from BMX before my follow-up SPECT scan with @doc_amen in October.

I did this for 3 reasons:

1) for my own health.

2) to not have any issues with the research we’re doing involving exogenous ketones (@justpruvit) and how our brains are in fact able to be changed in a positive manner. Even for someone like myself with a past of many TBI’s and multiple brain tumors that came with surgery, treatments, and mental health battles.

3) to focus more on the changes I’ve been pursuing in my life to create an entirely new reality that I’m seeing manifest more and more everyday.

To be honest, I don’t miss it much.

That said, I still love BMX. I know I’ll pick it right back up. And I still think about it and envision riding all the time.

But, the itch to ride isn’t quite there. Mainly, because I don’t have any goals around BMX now that I’m not competing and don’t have any sponsor obligations.

The sponsorships and support I’ve acquired are built around me as a person, the value I’m providing, and the purpose in fulfilling.

If I want to ride, cool. If I don’t, that’s cool too.

It’ll be interesting to see how these next 5 months go and when that follow-up SPECT scan is complete.

I understand what Dave Mirra told me years ago when he retired when he said “Josh, my hearts just not in it anymore. I have nothing to prove. I have no goals within BMX. And, honestly, it’s not worth my or my family’s well being.”

I was confused thinking “but, Dave. You’re, Dave Mirra. How can you not ride”?

It’s all perspective and my perspective is one of gratitude for my past and all BMX has done for me. But, after 17 years on my bike, I’m excited to see where this new route and my efforts take me.

I’ll for sure ride again after the 6-month mark but to what degree, no clue.

It’s all love tho and I hope you’re all following exactly what you feel deep down.

We NEED Adversity

I would complain about things in my life, let alone what was outside of my immediate and selfish perspective that I would then complain about.

I lived my life fueled by anger, spite, and on a mission to prove abusive people in my life wrong.

After many wake up calls (3 brain tumor diagnosis, my main bike sponsor dropping me out of the blue mid ACL recovery, multiple TBI’s, debt, etc.) I decided to stop making excuses for why I couldn’t do or have something I desired.

I then took accountability for my life and started making small shifts that led to massive changes.

I sacrificed what I had left after my sponsor giving me the boot and set myself on a path fueled by gratitude and love with a very clear reason as to WHY I was doing what I was doing.

That why was PURPOSE.

A purpose to help others reach their full potential with health, happiness, and success, without the suffering we choose upon ourselves.

The reality is, we all face some sort of shit in our lives.

Perspective is essential, tho!

It could always be worse.

Anyone reading this, especially from a smart phone, is winning.

The belief we choose about our life and limitations dictates our reality and we become a slave to external sources when we’re all incredibly capable of manifesting a life we belief we deserve.

What do YOU believe is the life YOU deserve and what are you willing to do for it?

Financial Stories

This trip meant the world to me to have documented.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwwnbdmho93/?igshid=4kisibv1ee62

In the past, I would make decisions by the short term gain vs loss.

I used to be crippled to the lack of money I had and my choices would be dictated by the fear of “not having enough”. That meant I missed out on seeing a lot of my family and friends a lot of the time because although I was laser focused on my BMX career, and successful, I wasn’t making much more money than my basic needs.

I’ve learned that was a simple perspective piece based on past subconscious programming that manifested this past relationship with money.

Today, I’ve thrown out the mentality of being limited by what’s in my bank account, not being to manifest more than “average”, and have swapped it out for the belief we live based on the limits we believe in for ourselves.

I’ve taken massive risks over the years, gone all in on what I believe in today, and made choices based on what’s best for my long game and my soul.

Taking the money I have after basic living needs is usually saved up to reinvest back in my business.

This time, I wanted to use that money for the people I love, now that my belief system is one of love, health, happiness, success, and abundance.

It’s always been a dream of mine to fly in with no notice to surprise my family and best friend (Brandon) and take Brandon and my dad to a Celtics game.

I was able to do that a few weeks ago and it was a byproduct of my belief and hard work for the life I envision.

Nothing more.

Power of Sharing

I believe the power of sharing your WHY, or your beliefs, can lead you to meeting and connecting with extraordinary people like Michael Bustin 💯

The fact that we can share to an unlimited amount of people via social media and the resistance people show towards that fact is mind boggling.

It wasn’t as clear to me in on the beginning in regards to how much value sharing, story telling, and combining the two via the internet could have for others and myself.

I learned the power of sharing in 2010 as I shared for the first time that I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Fast forward & years, sharing in an effort to bring others as much value as possible has led me to meeting incredible people like Michael as well as many more and experiences and opportunities.

What is your perspective on story telling, connecting, and bringing others value?

Thermometer or Thermostat

I believe we all have a choice.

A choice to become a survivor or a victim. React to life or be proactive in life.

I love how Jim Kwik puts it as comparing a thermostat to a thermometer. A thermostat controls the environment and a thermometer reacts to an environment.

I know we can’t control our lives but we can control our choices, which will manifest a reality one way or another. Or choices in food, thoughts, and physical activity.

We can choose to be proactive and prevent unwanted realities, or we can live our lives in auto-pilot and react to events as they come. I choose to follow a ketogenic diet & lifestyle for my 🧠, choose to educate myself on a daily basis, choose to serve others and help support them, and choose to hold myself accountable for my reality.

I was living my life as a thermometer and just reacting to my environment until I was 21 and told I was going to die from a massive brain tumor taking residence on the left half of my brain. It took that life or death situation to audit my choices, foster self-awareness, and make the choice to become empowered over my reality.

I share not to brag, but to inspire you all to take action as a thermostat for your life rather than reacting to your life environment/reality as a thermometer.

I don’t want others to suffer as I did and be forced to react to a situation. I want your choices to come from move rather than fear.

Second Chances

I had a large brain tumor taking over my life and 4 currently trying.

Health is internal.

I learned the hard way after a BMX crash led to a life-saving MRI where they found the first tumor taking over half my brain.

Wrapped around an artery and my optic nerve, the surgery complications led to a 6hr surgery. When I woke up, it was the best moment in my life.

Almost like second chance.

For the first time in about a year or so, I wasn’t in pain and could see, hear, and move my body after signing paperwork acknowledging all those risks on top of death being a possibility.

The story doesn’t end there and to be short, I’ve been diagnosed 2 more times since the original surgery leaving me with a total of 4 tumors in my skull today. 2 in which shrunk thanks to Gamma Knife and the other 2 haven’t progressed since changing my life.

The last 8 years of experiences have led me to a ketogenic diet and lifestyle, learning about the importance of mindset, perspective, choices, the ego, and consciousness, and has given me clarity around my purpose.

Fueled by Gratitude & Love

“Now every day I wake up and breathe

I don’t have it all but that’s alright with me.” Mac Miller 🙏🏼

To me, this is a phrase backed by gratitude and love.

Gratitude to be alive and be filled with abundance right in front of me. Love for what I believe in, my purpose to serve and support others, and love for the process and journey of it all.

When we live in lack, spite, stress, doubt, worry, or fear, it only lasts so long as fuel to keep us going.

I was full of spite and anger towards an abusive drunken step father and those who doubted my dreams to become a pro BMX athlete like I am today.

Reflecting on my beginnings, I can see all that anger and spite combined with a negative lifestyle and diet probably caused the brain tumors to show up.

Now that I’ve audited my life and shifted my priorities to love, gratitude, and serving others, along with @elekta_ Gamma Knife & a ketogenic diet, the tumors have shown no progression, I’m progressing all areas of my life, I’ve overcome obstacles I never fathomed, and I’m happier and healthier than ever.

My 3 core beliefs as who I am today:

🌀 Life starts with perspective & progresses with gratitude.

🌀 Health is internal, not numbers on a piece of paper or scale.

🌀 Life is a manifestation of our choices, there’s no excuses.

Fear is just a thought, thoughts can be changed. 💚✌️

Fueled By Love

I love BMX and all it’s done for me, shown me, led me to, and what’s to come.

I began on this path of self discovery (didn’t know it at the time) while chasing my dream at the age of 17 when I left home on a mission to prove doubters wrong and live the life I desired.

I’m now doing things I never fathomed being apart of my reality. Things like motivational speaking, coaching, running my own business, and becoming featured in major media outlets like GQ, People, ESPN, Fox News, Americas Got Talent, top podcasts and many others.

I started this journey fueled by spite. Today, it’s fueled by love and gratitude with a purpose of serving others.

A bmx crash one day led to an MRI that found a massive brain tumor taking over my brain. Had I not fallen and hit my head that day, I’d be dead. That’s when my whole perspective on life shifted and gratitude to be alive took over.

I then found the ketogenic diet and fitness (after blowing out my knee and needing ACL surgery) and it’s changed my and my clients lives in such profound ways.

I don’t know where I’d be if it wasn’t for that childhood dream but I know I’m grateful to have taken the risk of leaving everything behind in pursuit of making it happen.

I work my ass off and never give up because some people don’t have the option to even try, let alone wake up. Loosing my younger brother gave me a new perspective on my life once again and I’m going to continue working my ass for him and all those that don’t wake up as we often take for granted. 🙏🏼

Power of Suggestion

The power of suggestion.

I call it “noise”.

It’s the crap we hear from other people and the media.

Today’s society seems to be full of negativity suggestions and I’ve been persuaded by it from time to time. It’s not always easy but worth it to push through for what your heart truly desires.

“You’re going to fail at that”, “that’s not a safe path, don’t go that route”, “you’re not good enough”, “you’re not smart enough”, “you’re not healthy enough”, “go to college”, “get a real job”, etc.

I’ve heard them all.

But, not all suggestions are negative.

I do my best to surround myself with positive people that have a positive influence on my life and consume positive content.

I do my best to be real but authentic but always come from a place of love, gratitude, and positivity.

I appreciate all of you that love and support me 💚✌️

WHO Do YOU Choose To Be?

You’re only destined to become who you choose to be.

I used to be a victim. Would complain about what “isn’t fair”, “why me”, “it must be nice”, and (insert caption).

I used to carry 5-10% more body fat on me at all times and knowingly hurting my brain by making the choice to eat copious amounts of sugar, processed foods, alcohol, juice, breads, pastas, cereals, candy, etc.

I used to blame my reality on anyone and anything but me and my choices. I used to be envious of others success and talk about how “unfair” my life was.

Then one day I learned (brain tumor diagnosis) to become self aware and hold myself accountable for what I did or did not have in my life.

👉🏼I made the choice to become healthy, inside and out.

👉🏼I made the choice to prioritize my brain’s health.

👉🏼I made the choice to have purpose in my life that had an impact on the world and would leave behind a legacy.

👉🏼I made the choice to be great rather than what society told me to be.

👉🏼I made the choice become a survivor, not a victim.

I challenge you all to see the world from a survivors perspective, not a victim. The world doesn’t happen to us, it happens for us. But, we must choose to see it that way.

Choose to be great. Choose to be strong. Choose to be kind. Choose to be wise. Choose to be resilient. Choose to love rather than fear.

Choose to walk your talk. Choose to dismiss the noise saying you can’t.

Carve your path. Fall down 7 times and get up 8.

Set goals. Have a clear vision and purpose. Eat healthy food to nourish your brain (I follow a ketogenic lifestyle). Believe in yourself and take action. Don’t ever give up.💚✌️
