It’s for sure not “easy” although I love every aspect of it, therefore eliminating the debate over “easy” and “hard”. It’s just what I want to do with my life.
Along the way, there have been many obstacles that have helped get me to where I am today: 3 brain tumor diagnosis, torn ACL, countless concussions, living off my younger brother couch and out of my car when I was broke, depression, being physically and verbally abused as a child by a step father, being dropped from my bike sponsor mid recovery from surgery, and losing friends and family close to me to suicide.
Non the less, every obstacle, set back, and level of pain has taught me a valuable lesson and that is that shit could always be worse.
Through it all, I’ve been tempted over and over again with opportunity to make life “easier” as the cost of my integrity.
Whether it was taking a pay check to represent a brand that went so against what I stand for or even giving up on all the things I’m actively pursuing, including my own life.
The desire for the life I envision has been so strong it’s brought me out of very dark hole I’ve been in and kept me from taking the “easy route” when presented.
By doing so, it’s allowed me to continue down the path of living the life I desire and to choose to become who I want to be.
I’m grateful for my dedication to my core values and for all the love and support you all continue to show me as I navigate this life journey and sharing with all of you.
Who wants to burn body fat for fuel while fueling their brains?
Despite following traditional theories of eating less and moving more being the way to burn fat, it’s quite the opposite if within the right context.
The truth is that when we can shift our body to run primarily off of fat for fuel, both dietary and body stores, we can efficiently, effectively, and enjoyably reach our goals with burning body fat.
Burning fat for fuel helps support many benefits to the human body.
🧠 optimizing brain health and performance.
🔥reducing inflammation and glycation (blood sugar damage).
💪🏽reducing the rate of aging (measured via telomeres).
🧬 supports epigenetics (change in gene expression, which “can be up to 70% of our genes” @drandind).
👌🏼 increased sustainable energy without hard crashes.
😎 improvements to body composition.
Keto isn’t a fad once you look into the science behind the underlining mechanisms being targeted to create so many desirable benefits.
The mitochondria are one of, if not THE, most important aspects of the ketogenic diet, or a state of ketosis, that brings on so much profound benfits to our health.
What’s interesting is as you adapt to a state of ketosis, your ketone levels begin to drop due to the body’s tissues soaking up the ketones to use for energy demands.
“It is well established that the cells’ uptake of ketones is proportional to the amount of ketones present in the blood.” Dr.’s Lowery & Wilson, Ketogenic Bible
That’s why #MakeEmTakeEm is so crucial to understand, depending on your goals and where you are with your keto journey. While we can reach deep levels of ketosis with the ketogenic diet, supplementing with exogenous ketones like @justpruvit is a must in order to get numbers up.
@justpruvit makes the only ketone on the market that you can buy, drink, and that is “naturally biologically active” Dr.’s Wilson & Lowery, Ketogenic Bible.
@ryanplowery @zonehalo @themusclephd @drandind @kendberry.md @thomasdelauer are some to learn more from in this department.
I still don’t understand it and it’s the most bizarre thing to comprehend in my life and drives me insane when I get deep in my thinking about the scenario and seeing him in his coffin.
I wasn’t there to protect him as I have always done my best to do since we were kids and even as adults.
My mom told us when we were younger I’d be super protective over him when he was born and would hassle strangers when they’d say how cute Danny was to my mom.
The fact that I wasn’t there, can’t change what happened, and didn’t do my job as an older brother haunts me every day and is something I’ll never let go of fully.
The fact he’s not here but I am confuses me given my own health circumstances but I’d also why I don’t ever slow down with my goals to make an impact on this earth.
The only thing that brings me some sort of relief is that I bring his ashes with me everywhere I go around the world on my wrist and that I share what he means to me any chance I get.
I talk about Danny, and @davemirra, on stage as they’re the driving fuel to all I do in sharing my story and passions today.
I can’t go back and save them but I can share with all of YOU and hope you implement the tools I share and share with those you love or don’t even know.
Still have an email saved from 2010 post brian surgery that I wrote to @lancearmstrong and will share what that email container in person one day. I just know it!
Until then, I’ll just continue to share my gratitude and perspective I’ve gained from Lance over the years.
When I was originally diagnosed with the first brain tumor in 2010, I was on top of the world living out my dream as a pro BMX athlete beyond what I ever fathomed being possible.
When the diagnosis hit, I was a fresh 21 year old sitting in the doctors office ALONE waiting to get a report from a concussion I had received a few days prior. Never did I imagine I would be diagnosed with a massive brain tumor on accident.
I’m thankful it all happened and has worked out the way it has and Lance is one of many I have to thank for the mindset that was instilled in me on top of what my family, BMX, and my own journey instilled in me at a young age.
After a 6-hr surgery, 75 staples, and 16 stitches later, I was back riding in 5 weeks!
The fact that I’m still alive and able to love my life better than before is why I work so hard and share all I share.
This is pretty ridiculous but sadly spot on to the direction our society is heading.
What’s even sadder is the fact that many people don’t even have control over it because their brain is being hijacked by the biological affects of the foodlikeproducts our nation consumes on a regular basis, making up for over 75% of diets and is full of sugar.
I was once there but luckily for me, and my genetic predisposition, I stayed “in-shape” and was “healthy”. At least I thought I was healthy.
The inflamed state of my body from such a processed diet, along with mutated genes and specific negative genes activated, led me to being diagnosed with a non cancerous meningioma brain tumor.
Since then, I have made some serious changes to my lifestyle and diet and I share this with all of you to inspire each and every one of you to make just one small change to your lifestyle and diet that could have such a profound impact you’ll never fathom until experienced.
You don’t need to be perfect or do it all at once. Just adopt one small change here and there, and stick to it, and share what you experience with others.
@nutritionschool refers to this as the ripple affect and I have seen it take place on a regular basis in my life.
Love your body and treat it right. You won’t be disappointed.
What started out as a dream of becoming a pro BMX athlete turned into a new purpose driven by a dream to change the way we view the world, our lives, and our 🧠 health.
A brain tumor diagnosis in 2010 started my obsession with how to optimize my brain.
Along the journey, I’ve learned a bunch about diet, mindset, injuries, toxins, meditation, and fitness and their roles on the brain.
A new tool in my arsenal is SPECT imaging, which looks at blood flow and emotional circuitry. SPECT allows us to see the damage occurring in the brain from the former mentioned above.
This allows us to incorporate lifestyle changes to help change, heal, and further protect our brains.
What’s rad is that we have just learned how exogenous ketones help support these areas of the brain along with exercise, meditation and breathing, and diet.
An important step, and some blood markers we should all know are mentioned on picture 5.
Along with lifestyle changes, knowing your blood markers from said blood tests (photo 5) is blood glucose and ketone numbers via @ketocoachx (ketones) and Any quality glucometer for blood glucose.
What steps are you taking to improve your brains health?
Josh Perry and Dr. Ryan Lowery get the results from their 3 SPECT scans at Amen Clinics to see if Prüvit exogenous ketones have an impact on their brain.
The results actually shock everyone as Josh & Ryan are the first to ever look at the brain in a ketogenic state under SPECT imaging.
Thanks, Dr. Daniel Amen and Amen Clinics for the SPECT imaging and support.
Thank’s for coming to my channel and for hopping on board my journey. Please say “hey”! 🙂

Josh Perry is a former professional BMX athlete, motivational speaker, and certified holistic health coach who is fighting 4 brain tumors. Josh suffered a head injury in 2010 that led to an MRI, revealing an 8cm long/2cm wide/2 cm deep meningioma brain tumor. After a 6 hour brain surgery, 75 staples, and a16 stitches later, Josh returned to professional level BMX competition.
2 years later 2 tumors grew back and Josh used Gamma Knife Radiotherapy to shrink them. 5 years after that, 2 new tumors popped up, leaving him with 4 today, but after implementing a ketogenic diet, Josh’s 1 and 2 year MRI’s showed no progression of the 4 tumors in his skull.
Josh launched a health coaching business to inspire and help others to improve their brain health so they can transform into the most successful versions of themselves. Josh now travels the world to speak and is a soon to be author.
We’ve always been told that wearing a helmet is important for our brains.
After @davemirra being diagnosed with CTE, I’ve become even more obsessed with 🧠 health and sharing with the BMX community and all of you.
Although I’m an advocate for helmets 100%, they don’t do much in terms of concussions and preventing CTE. They do protect the skull from fractures, tho, which is amazing!
🤓But, when we talk about the brain in regards to concussions, we have to understand the brains development, how the brain actually sits in the skull, and how a concussion occurs.
I’ve seen many of my friends out cold while wearing a helmet.
🧠@scottycranmer was wearing a helmet when his life altering TBI occurred.
🧠I’ve seen @vincebyron out cold several times with a full face helmet on, the last gnarly one resulted in blood seeping out of his nose and ears.
🧠 @davemirra crushed his face through his full face helmet one year at a contest.
🧠I myself have had a few concussions where I had a seizure and my heart stopped, all while wearing a helmet.
🙏🏼 That said, this isn’t a post advocating for not wearing a helmet. Very much the opposite and helmets serve an amazing tool for protecting our skull and mitigating issues if a head injury were to occur.
🙏🏼 This post is to understand the implications of hitting our heads. It takes time or it can be immediately.
🙌🏼 Part 2 from my trip to @doc_amen with @ryanplowery to get SPECT scans of our brains comes out Friday at 330pm EST!
Dr. Ali will be explaining this topic much more along with our scan results with exogenous @justpruvit ketones and without, what the scans mean, why we are the way we are, and how we can change our brains with and without exogenous ketones.
🤔Comment any questions or concerns and I’ll do a LIVE to answer those questions.🤗
For those of you who have no idea who I am, I am a Pro BMX athlete who moved away from home on Cape Cod, MA at 17 years old to train with pro’s like Dave Mirra in Greenville, NC. About two years later I rode X-Games for the first time after winning my first pro contest.
Less than a year later I fell and hit my head, and an MRI revealed a large brain tumor that was taking up a major portion of my brain. I didn’t know where to turn, but Athlete Recovery Fund stepped up to the plate and provided the financial assistance and direction that ultimately saved my life! Despite all odds, I recovered to become 10th overall in the 2016 UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup standings, not even a year out of ACL reconstructive surgery.
It is estimated that about 700,000 people are currently living with a primary brain or central nervous system tumor diagnosis in the US alone. Nearly 79,000 new cases of primary brain tumors are expected to be diagnosed this year, almost 5,000 being adolescents (0-19) years old and 17,000 people will lose their battle with a primary malignant and central nervous system brain tumor. An estimated 1.7 million people sustain a TBI annually, 52,000 die, 275,000 are hospitalized, and 1.365 million, nearly 80%, are treated and released from an emergency department.
Along the way, I’ve become very passionate about holistic health and nutrition and enrolled myself in a nutrition program to earn a certification as a Holistic Health coach on a path to better my health, life, and others in the world. I want to combine all of my passions into one live BMX event that will directly and financially help brain tumor and brain injury patients around the world. Being a brain tumor and brain injury patient myself, I know the mental, physical and financial toll it takes on you. I want to use my experiences and abilities to lessen that for others as much as I can.
I come from a family with no money, and I have been supporting myself since I was 17 by living my dream from riding my bike. I do whatever I can to give back now, and these global events will allow me to give back even more and on a much greater scale than what I can currently do on my own.
I want to create a global touring BMX event that will positively impact the lives of people around the world. To do this, I need funding. The problem is, I don’t have that kind of funding. So, how can I make this happen? Then I thought, wait a minute. “Josh, you’re a man of the people. Let’s start a fundraising campaign!”
The goal of this fundraising campaign is to raise funds to start and operate for a whole year so that way all the events we book, the merchandise we sell, and donations we acquire hereafter will be used to donate percentages of the proceeds to direct financial patient care. We are more than a BMX stunt show, we are a BMX stunt show offering free clinics for people to try BMX out after the show, live music performances, professional athletic trainers on site to provide demonstration therapies and techniques, and are backed by some of the biggest health facility, organizations, and corporations in the world.
I truthfully think the only thing standing in the way of me getting from point A to point B, is proper funding. Point B being inspiring, educating, entertaining, and supporting people around the world. I want to create and cultivate something large enough so that I no longer need financial support to operate events, and the organization is overbooked and giving 100’s of thousands of dollars away each year to directly support patients and get them the care they need.
This project is so important and means the world to me. If you guys help us out, I know I can inspire hope to those in need and completely change the lives of many around the world.
I can do this, but I can’t do it without you. Together, we can have an amazing time and leave a positive impact on our world.
Thank you for your time. I appreciate each and every one of you. See you soon! -Josh Perry
